The Compassion Transformation Institute offers hands-on, relational services designed to support communities as they move from intention to action. While the frameworks we use are shared, every community journey is unique. Our role is not to impose a formula, but to walk alongside grassroots teams, offering guidance, tools, and connections tailored to their specific cultural, social, and civic context.
1. Mentoring Grassroots Teams to Build Compassionate Communities
One of the Institute’s core services is mentoring grassroots teams of residents, educators, civic leaders, faith leaders, youth, and local organizations who are interested in becoming—or strengthening—a Compassionate Community.
While the steps outlined below offer a general pathway, the mentoring process is customized to each community, taking into account local strengths, challenges, history, governance structures, and available resources.
Typical mentoring steps include:
- Clarifying the community’s why: shared values, hopes, and motivations
- Identifying existing assets, relationships, and successful initiatives
- Building a diverse and representative core team
- Learning how to engage local institutions and civic leadership
- Designing inclusive listening and dialogue processes
- Translating compassion into visible, measurable actions
- Establishing structures for sustainability and shared leadership
Mentorship is offered at a modest cost, negotiated collaboratively with each team and scaled to the ability of the community to pay. Our intention is access, equity, and long-term success—not financial burden.
Whenever possible, teams will also have the opportunity to partner with an experienced Compassionate Community. These peer communities serve as advisors and companions, sharing practical wisdom, lessons learned, and encouragement based on real-world experience.
2. Action Planning Through the New World Game Platform
A second service offered by the Institute is facilitation and support in developing a community action plan using the New World Game platform.
The New World Game is a collaborative simulation that helps communities move beyond discussion into co-created solutions. It is especially effective for complex challenges that require cooperation across sectors.
In brief, the platform guides teams through:
- Identifying a shared challenge or opportunity
- Mapping existing resources, constraints, and stakeholders
- Working in small, cross-sector groups to design solutions
- Testing ideas through rapid feedback and iteration
- Aligning actions with shared goals and timelines
- Creating accountability through collective ownership
Rather than prescribing answers, the New World Game helps communities discover their own capacity to collaborate, build trust, and act together. Institute facilitators support teams before, during, and after the process to ensure insights translate into real-world action.
3. Participation in the Peace by 2030 Game
The Institute also helps communities arrange participation in the Peace by 2030 Game, a global collaborative initiative founded by David Gershon.
Peace by 2030 is a game-based, team-driven experience that invites participants to work together to address real-world challenges related to peace, justice, sustainability, and social cohesion—aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Through this experience, participants:
- Learn to think systemically and collaboratively
- Practice compassionate leadership and shared responsibility
- Identify leverage points for change within their community
- Build momentum through small, achievable wins
- Connect local action to global peacebuilding efforts
The Compassion Transformation Institute supports communities in understanding the game, organizing teams, and integrating insights from Peace by 2030 into their broader compassionate community strategy. For more detail on any of the services, click on the boxes below.
